Privacy Policy

Council Tax Challenger (https://counciltaxchallenger.co.uk) is operated by Comtev Ltd("we", "us"). This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and the rights you have over it under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

What we collect

  • Postcode searches: the postcodes you look up. Council tax bands are public data; a postcode on its own does not identify you, but we treat search history linked to an account as personal data.
  • Account details: your email address and password (held by AWS Cognito; we never see your password) when you create an account.
  • Purchase data: payments are processed by Stripe. We receive confirmation of payment and your billing email, never your full card details.
  • Evidence pack contents: the property you select and the report we generate for it, so you can retrieve it later.
  • Usage data: analytics events via Google Analytics and Meta Pixel, and support conversations via Intercom.

Why we use it

  • To provide the service: running band comparisons, generating and delivering your evidence pack, and showing your challenge status (performance of a contract).
  • To improve the product and measure marketing (legitimate interests / consent where required).
  • To provide customer support and send transactional emails such as report delivery (performance of a contract).

Retention

Postcode lookup caches expire automatically after 7 days. Report download links expire after 7 days, and generated reports are retained so you can request them again. Account data is kept while your account is active and deleted on request.

Sharing

We do not sell your data. We share data only with the processors that run the service: Amazon Web Services (hosting), Stripe (payments), Google Analytics and Meta (analytics and advertising measurement), and Intercom (support chat). Each processes data under its own agreement with us.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to processing, or withdraw consent at any time by emailing support@comtev.com. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies for sign-in sessions and, where you allow them, analytics (Google Analytics) and advertising measurement (Meta Pixel). You can block cookies in your browser settings; sign-in and checkout require essential cookies to work.

Changes

If we make material changes to this policy we will update this page and the date above. Questions about this policy: support@comtev.com.
