UK council tax open data, 2026/27

350 billing authorities, 29,855,389 dwellings. Data last updated .

This is the dataset behind our council pages, council tax calculator and most common band analysis. One row per UK billing authority: the 2026/27 charge for every band, Band D for this year and last, and the number of homes in each band. It is free to download, reuse and republish under the Open Government Licence; we ask only for a link back.

Sources and method

  • England charges: MHCLG, live tables on council tax, area Band D including all precepts. Bands A to H are the statutory ninths of Band D (s.5 Local Government Finance Act 1992).
  • England and Wales dwellings: VOA, council tax stock of properties (CTSOP1.1), billing authority rows.
  • Wales charges: Welsh Government, council tax levels.
  • Scotland charges and dwellings: Scottish Government council tax datasets; charges exclude Scottish Water.

The build pipeline, including every source URL and the validation it runs, is documented in the repository. Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. We do not alter any source figure; the only derived fields are the band charges computed from Band D and the most common band.
